STERLING TRUCK CORP.--Headquartered in Willoughby, Ohio. It is a subsidiary of  Freightliner LLC, a unit of DaimlerChrysler AG (DCX), which acquired the heavy-duty commercial truck assets during late 1997 from Ford Motor Co. (F) and renamed it Sterling Truck.

Freightliner is in the process of consolidating the product distribution assets of Sterling Truck with Western Star Trucks Inc., acquired in September 2000 for more than $400.0 million in cash.

Freightliner plans to retain its Sterling Truck headquarters in Ohio but shift it to another off-site location as the current headquarters has a vacancy rate of nearly 50 per cent. The high vacancy rate is a result of employee departures in the midst of corporate restructure.

Sterling continues to source its product line of medium-duty and heavy-duty commercial trucks from a manufacturing site in St. Thomas, Ont.
