KOMATSU AMERICA INTERNATIONAL CO. (KA)--The second-largest supplier of construction equipment in North America, manufactures and markets the Komatsu, Dresser and Galion lines of hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders, crawler dozers, off-highway trucks and motor graders. Komatsu Utility Corporation (KUC), supplier of construction, utility and rental products, manufactures and markets the Komatsu line of excavators.

The Komatsu unit plans to launch assembly of four models of industrial wheel tractors, a type of compact-type construction machine, by January 2002 at a new $20.0 million, 20,000 square meter facility in Newberry, S.C. By 2005, it expects to be manufacturing 4,000-5,000 units annually of industrial wheel tractors, skid steer loaders and other compact-type machines at the site.
