| Consorcio G Grupo Dina,
S.A. de
C.V. (DINA) -- A manufacturer of trucks and buses in Mexico, at a plant in
Ciudad Sahagun Hidalg. It is also considered a major assembler of commercial trucks and
intercity coaches in the U.S., Argentina, and Mexico. Motor Coach Industries
Inc. (MCII) is an affiliate of Dina and a major manufacturer of buses. In 1998, Dina generated sales of
$1.10 billion. Most of the operating profit of $107.0 million originated from MCII. In
January 1994, Dinas American Depository Receipt (ADR) trades generated $31.00 per
share. In trading today, the shares are valued at a mere $1.50 per ADR. In 1998, Dina sold
nearly 4,000 units of commercial vehicles.
Dina defaulted on an interest payment on outstanding bonds with its creditors in 2001. It halted all commercial truck manufacture during the first quarter of 2001, citing a lack of cash. The firm currently is negotiating with Motor Coach Industries to sell a remaining minor stake in MCII, in a bid to raise cash and repay creditors. Dina was de-listed early in 2001 from trading of its common stock on the New York Stock Exchange, following the default. Liquidation of its remaining assets appears imminent. |
